EUROCABEL-1 LLC HAS CHOSEN OFS ALLWAVEÒ ZERO WATER PEAK FIBER FOR MANUFACTURE OF OPTICAL CABLES

Improved Characteristics and Long-Term Parameter Stability

Moscow, Russia, July 12, 2006 - Eurocabel-1 LLC, a technology driven company specializing in the manufacture of optical cables for communication systems, has announced that effective July 1^st 2006 the main production of single mode optical fiber cables will feature OFS’ AllWaveÒ ZWP (Zero Water Peak) G.652.D fiber. AllWave® ZWP fiber was pioneered by OFS in 1998. This fiber is fully compatible with the embedded base of existing G.652 type A, B and C single mode fibers. AllWaveÒ ZWP fiber is manufactured by the VAD method (Vertical Axial Deposition) to produce excellent optical loss and fiber geometry leading to best in class splice performance. The industry leading low polarization mode dispersion (PMD) of AllWave® ZWP fiber will assure that the network can be upgraded to 40Gb/s transmission in the future.

AllWaveÒ ZWP fiber is the first full spectrum fiber providing the ability to transmit signals across the full range of 1250 to 1650 nm giving network operators a 50% increase in bandwidth capability with the elimination of the water peak defect. The patented fiber manufacturing process assures that the signal transmission parameters of Eurocabel-1 LLC Single Mode optical cables will remain stable throughout the entire cable service life, i.e. at least for 25-30 years.

“The replacement of standard G.652 single mode fiber by the AllWaveÒ ZWP fiber will provide a competitive advantage to our customers since AllWave ZWP fiber provides a 50% increase in usable optical spectrum as compared with standard singlemode fiber” said Edward Kim, General Director of Eurocabel-1 LLC and added that “the replacement will not result in price increase of new optical cables”. Eurocabel-1 LLC was among the first cable manufacturers in Russia to offer AllWaveÒ ZWP to operators and through years of reliable operation Eurocabel-1 LLC has already proven the potential of future growth and capabilities of networks on AllWaveÒ ZWP fiber.

Alexander Mikilev, Marketing Director of the OFS Russian representative office added: “When using the AllWaveÒ ZWP fiber in communications network, we draw attention of the system operators to the fact that this fiber already is recognized internationally as the industry’s first Zero Water Peak fiber, which fully complies with and exceeds the requirements defined in the international and domestic G.652.D fiber standards whilst being fully backwards compatible with the embedded base of existing G.652 type A, B and C single mode fibers. The application of AllWaveÒ ZWP fiber guarantees that fiber-optic communication systems will be reliably operated with any data communications equipment, both of previous generation and with new transmission technologies DWDM, CWDM in data transmission networks like CATV, FTTx, PON, Ethernet, etc. We consider Eurocabel-1 LLC cables with AllWaveÒ ZWP fiber represents a natural choice for most network operating companies. More than 200,000 kilometers of AllWave fiber have already been deployed in the Russian Interconnected network by now, however we are sure that this figure will rapidly increase.”

About Eurocabel-1 LLC

Eurocabel-1 LLC is a Russian company that specializes in manufacture of optical cables for communication systems, designed for application on the communication lines of the Russian Federation Unified communications network, as well as on the communication lines of other operating companies belonging to other ministries and institutions. The company was established in 2003 and in the intervening years it managed to occupy the leading positions in the field of optical cables manufacture. At 2005 year-end the company came out on the leading position in the Russian Federation for manufacture of all types of optical cables (more than 16 thousand kilometers).

The range of cables produced by Eurocable-1 LLC covers different laying conditions: in all kinds of ground, duct systems, in special tubing, collectors, on the bridges and elevated structures, it can be hanged on antenna supports, power transmission lines, trolley system of electric railroad or inside the buildings. Cable lay-up can be both modular or with central optical module, a so-called "loose tube". Type and amount of optical fiber is specified by the customer on the basis of the communication network equipment applied.

At present time Eurocabel-1 LLC holds great technological capabilities for manufacture of optical cables with different lay-ups for backbone network, area network, local network, Internet, LAN, KTV, etc. In 2006 it is planned to increase the manufacturing capacity up to 20,000km of cable per year.
